A protective and beneficial tree that supports us through winter.
Cedar is a very versatile and durable hardwood found all over the world and can be traced back to 1800 B.C. It is native to Lebanon and the Mediterranean region. Cedar wood is popular as it resists shrinking, swelling and warping.
They grow best in full sun or partial shade and in moist, organic rich, well drained soil. Some varieties live up to 300 years and can grow over 100 feet tall. Cedars are disease resistant and fairly undemanding.
Cedar essential oil has incredible properties and can be used as an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antifungal or as an insecticide. With a very earthy and organic smell, cedar can have a soft grounding effect when being diffused.
Celebrated spiritually for its protection and its ability to heal and purify, cedar symbolizes protection, wisdom and strength. At "Rooted" we have been gifted cedars over the years, bringing a special touch to our own sacred Studio. With the upcoming Winter Solstice...Cedar is one of the traditional evergreens used in the celebrations of the season.
At The Log Barn Studio we use cedar in fresh floral designs, and we look forward to adding it to our healthy living practices.
