Reflection of the Seasons

It is mid October and yesterday was 29 degrees and humid. By this weekend the nights will be around freezing. These weather variations seem strange and yet somehow normal.

As we enter a new season, the time change approaches. Many conversations this year have had the topic of time in them. Time seems to be moving faster, but is it really? Maybe our relationship with it is changing and the quickening step is asking us to slow down...simplify our lives. When I moved to Rooted "living simple" was on my list. It has taken me ten years to begin to understand and implement some of this quality in my life.

Frustration arises occasionally, but gratitude rushes in as I think of the physical items that I do not have or that I am not responsible for. Some of my gratitude's are Family and Friends that no longer walk this beautiful earth with me. Their memories and energy are comforting and I feel their loving support and guidance.

The leaves on the Sassafras tree groupings are turning crimson and lighting up the front field. They act as a shelter for many birds, insects, and wildlife. I am being sheltered by trees as well. The buildings here are primarily created from local pine trees...logs and milled wood. Many nights I stare in awe and wonder how I have been so very fortunate.

When I walk the path through the field or the one through the forest at the back of the property, the trees and plants welcome me with open arms and ground me with peace and calm if I allow it. Interestingly enough, I have always felt protected, but reassurance and mindful thoughts help all of us.

As I age and become a Senior, my body asks for gentleness, more movement and less stress. Our culture doesn't support this idea but I am consciously incorporating it daily to the best of my ability. My nervous system asks more of me... Let's be present as much as possible and plan ahead, while allowing changes and space for those changes. My daily intention is to stay calm and respond in a positive way to what is happening at this moment in time. Discernment for what may happen is a learning curve that I navigate. Everyone has triggers in their emotional wave lengths and recognizing them is helpful.

I am venturing into new endeavours with more confidence. Yesterday, my honey bees required more attention from me as wild bees were trying to enter their hive. It was my first time tending to them alone, but my courage showed up and I managed the situation. Stretching ourselves beyond our comfort zones seems a daily occurrence in everyone's life. Stepping back and letting things happen seems beyond my comprehension but it is definitely necessary. You may call it "trust", "faith". etc....I call it "hard". With practice it is getting easier and "flow" seems to occur more often. The magic of knowing "all will be well" is a learning experience for me. When I recall the synchronicities combined with my intuited actions, patience emerges.

The deciduous trees on Rooted are releasing their leaves for this year. They do not fret or worry about their Spring buds not arriving. I wish to follow in their footsteps and invite you to do the same. Be a friend to yourself and speak kindly and gently as you release the old and nurture your new beginnings, dreams and adventures.

-Take good care-

Annette
